7 reasons why exotic flavour fans are switching to Jurassic Fruit's fresh organic coconut (and no, you don't need a machete)

Ever noticed that carton coconut water doesn't taste like the one you drink straight from the nut? There's a reason, and it's only the first of seven. Here they are.

The taste of a freshly opened coconut (not a carton)

Carton coconut water is often heated to keep for months, which changes its aroma. In a 2019 study (Food Science & Nutrition), 20 trained tasters rated heated coconut water lower than fresh for aroma and flavour. Yours is never heated. It's a Nam Hom, known as the sweetest in the world, and some customers even tell us it has a hint of chocolate milk.

Organic from palm tree to straw

In shops, many Thai coconuts go through a preservative bath that whitens their husks. Yours is grown organically at Liu's, then goes through a bath we developed with her against mould: no synthetic fungicide, approved for organic farming. As far as we know, one of the only sources of organic fresh coconut in Thailand.

03

Two treats for the price of one (and plenty of recipes)

A carton gives you water, and that's it. A coconut gives you about 350 ml of sweet water, then tender flesh: eat it with a spoon, or blend it into coconut milk, a smoothie or a soup.

Finally, a fresh coconut without a trip to the airport

You've tried the stand-ins: the carton, the brown coconut that laughs at your hammer, the “coconut flavour” cocktail. But the sweet water of a young coconut through a straw stayed a holiday memory: over 40 reviews mention a trip. Ours makes the journey for you, by refrigerated ship.

From Liu's farms to your door, no detours

No wholesaler: your coconuts leave Liu's farms in Ratchaburi for our warehouse, then head straight to you. Geoffrey and Clément, our co-founders, visit her farms regularly. When we say the coconuts are trimmed by hand, it's because we've watched it done.

Over 1,000 reviews (and plenty of regulars)

Out of more than 1,000 reviews of this coconut, almost 9 in 10 give it five stars. Even more telling: over 60 reviews mention a new order or a habit (“as always”). One box to try, then another.

And...

It's fun and easy to open (especially with the Coco Jack)

For the water, a pointed knife is enough: pierce the soft eye on the flat side and slide in a straw. For the whole nut, the Coco Jack (add-on) lifts off a round lid with a few taps of the mallet. All 4 methods are on video below.

Magali, 11 June 2025 · Translated from French

Sorry, I didn't take a photo after the great battle between the machete and the coconuts, but it's worth it, they're delicious. Thank you

Fast shipping, delicious fruit, reasonable price. I love this site that lets me enjoy tropical fruit at home. Everything is well packed and it arrives by Chronofresh. Perfect from start to finish, I recommend it

“Not easy to open, but...”

Laura D., 23 December 2025 · Verified buyer · Translated from French

with coconut water this good, it's the reward once it's open. The flesh is tender and very fragrant, a real joy!

“Surprised by the look, but...”

Christine T., 28 October 2026 · Verified buyer · Translated from French

The water is perfect, but I didn't like the flesh, too fatty for my taste, but that's just the nature of the product

Our reply: thank you, Christine. Nam Hom flesh ranges from slightly firm to almost jelly-like depending on the coconut, and it isn't for everyone. One explorer even wrote to tell us he only buys this coconut for its water.

4 ways to open your coconut

No tools

With a pointed knife, find the soft eye on the flat side, pierce it and slide in a straw. Once you've drunk the water, knock the nut against a hard corner until it splits.

With a large knife

Shave the flat side until you reach the soft eye, then pierce it. Strip the husk all the way round, then tap the shell to open it.

With a machete

The tropical way: 3 strikes on the tip to remove a triangle of shell, and in goes the straw.

With the Coco Jack

Place the bell on the tip and tap it with the mallet: a round lid comes off. Offered at a reduced price with your coconuts.

Receive, open, drink

Into the fridge on arrival

Take the coconuts out of the box and store them at 2 to 4 °C, still in their wrap. They keep for 2 to 3 weeks.

Open it your way

Pick one of the 4 methods above. The easiest: the Coco Jack.

Water first, flesh second

Drink the water through a straw, then split the nut against a hard corner. Eat the flesh with a spoon.

The flesh: 4 ideas to enjoy it

Homemade vanilla and chocolate coconut milk in jars

Homemade coconut milk

Blend the flesh with the coconut water, then strain. Perfect in coffee or a curry.
A purple smoothie with a slice of lemon

Smoothie

The flesh, the water, a banana or a handful of berries, and it's ready.
Yoghurt-style coconut cream topped with passion fruit, in a coconut-shell bowl

Yoghurt-style cream

The flesh blended until smooth, topped with fresh fruit.
A bowl of tomato and coconut milk soup with fresh basil

Soup or curry

Your homemade coconut milk replaces the tinned kind, and it's fresher.

Your questions before you order

Why does it cost more than a coconut bought on holiday?

We won't pretend otherwise: over there, it hasn't crossed the sea. Ours is certified organic, cut by hand and shipped chilled, then leaves us within a few working days and usually arrives in 1 working day. With a 2-box subscription, it works out at €3.38 per coconut, delivery included.

How does the subscription work?

You choose 1 or 2 boxes and a frequency: every 2, 4 or 6 weeks. Each delivery costs 5% less, and delivery is free from 2 boxes. You can pause or cancel from your account.

[to check in Appstle: pause, cancel, weekly frequency]

Is it good for you?

Coconut water is a source of potassium (250 mg per 100 g), which contributes to normal muscle function and to the maintenance of normal blood pressure. It's low in calories, 19 kcal per 100 g, with no added sugar.

How long does it keep?

2 to 3 weeks in the fridge, between 2 and 4 °C, from the day it arrives. Take the coconuts out of the box; there's no need to remove the wrap.

What if a coconut arrives damaged?

Arrives fresh or your money back: send us a photo at help@jurassicfruit.com when it arrives. The freshness guarantee applies to deliveries in France (1 to 2 working days).

[to check: align the site FAQ, which says “fair solution”]

The water is pink and the flesh pinkish: is that normal?

Yes. The water ranges from clear to slightly yellow or pink, and white to pinkish flesh is normal for the Nam Hom. The brown marks on the husk come from the coconuts falling into the water at harvest; they don't affect the inside.

What is the bath the coconuts go through after cutting?

Many fresh Thai coconuts sold in shops go through a preservative bath that keeps their husk perfectly white. Yours, after hand-trimming, goes through a bath we developed with Liu, with no synthetic fungicide and approved for organic farming, to prevent mould during the journey. That's why its husk is a little less white.

[to check: organic certificate of the bath, certification body, exact composition; product used in the non-organic dip]

How much is delivery?

It's free from 2 boxes (and on orders over €120). Below that: €5.90 to Germany or €9.90 to France, usually by Chronofresh in 1 working day, or by UPS in 1 to 2 working days.
